      Benue State Acting governor, Engr Benson Abounu has called on Chinese business men willing to invest in Nigeria to take advantage of the prevailing favourable investment environment and invest in the manufacturing of goods in the country instead of merely bringing all kinds of manufactured goods into the country.
He spoke yesterday while declaring open the 3-day Benue-China One Belt, One road Business Forum at The Benue Peoples’ House, Makurdi.Engr Abounu, who hailed the surging influence of the Chinese economy around the world, recalled that both China and the West benefited immensely when some Western countries shifted the base of manufacturing from their own countries to China in order to benefit from the prevailing favourable investment environment there.The acting governor, who called on the Chinese to do the same thing in Nigeria, particularly in Benue state, which he said is the choice destination for businessmen in Nigeria, stated that the state is specially endowed with abundant natural and human resources, good weather and a very friendly people. He stated that the Benue State government is committed to developing agriculture to the fullest and using it as the fulcrum to drive the industrialisation of the state.Engr Abounu expressed frustration with foreign business men who come to the state, sign memorandum of understanding (MOU) and disappear. He said the government is tired of MOUs and would want the team of investors to begin work immediately, assuring that they will get every support and encouragement they need.Earlier, president, China Chamber of Commerce, Steve Kim expressed happiness at the reception they got in the state and promised to invest their resources and vast expertise and knowledge in the development of the state in the areas of agriculture, mining, infrastructure, health and tourism. Chairman, Benue State Economic team and State commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis A. Ityavyar called on the Benue business community to take advantage of the forum, which was a follow-up to the Africa-China economic summit held in Beijing and expand the frontiers of their businesses.More photos below.
