The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has executed a court judgment delivered by the Presiding Magistrate of the Small Claims Court in Ogba, Mrs. O. I. Raji in respect of a litigation process won by the Agency on behalf of a complainant, Mrs. Abimbola Omole.
The Agency secured payment on behalf of Mrs. Omole, in line with the judgment of the Court that the defendant, Mr. Yemi Komolafe should refund all money collected from the complainant.
Omole had lodged a complaint with LASCOPA saying the sum of N170,000 was paid to the respondent, Mr. Yemi Komolafe, for a self-contained apartment located at 2, Popoola Close, Abule Egba in 2016 but she was never granted possession of the property.
Upon receipt of the complaint, LASCOPA sought the response of the accused person, Mr. Komolafe who did not deny the allegation and undertook to refund the amount he received for the self-contained apartment on or before 6th April 2018.
However, despite LASCOPA’s mediation efforts, the accused refused to honour the pledge to refund the money and was, therefore, charged to Court. The Presiding Magistrate ruled in favour of the complainant and directed the respondent, Mr. Komolafe to refund all the money collected.
Following the successful recovery of the complainant’s N170,000 by LASCOPA after the court judgment, the Agency has called on residents to forward complaints on such infraction of their consumer rights to its office for prompt resolution of issues.
