 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. UNKNOWN GUN MEN SHOT A FINAL YEAR STUDENT YESTERDAY AT OKO POLYTENIC.{GRAPHIC PHOTOS}.

A young man in his late 20's has been shot dead by armed robbers at the permanent site of Federal Polytechnic Oko campus.
The young man who's name could not be ascertained as at the time of the incident yesterday night (01/11/2018), was revealed to be a final year student of the department of Banking and Finance of the Polytechnic.
Students who resides at the Permanent Site of the school campus, scampered for safety at the sound of gunshots only to discover the young man lying in the pool of his blood when calmness returned.
The reason for his shooting to death is not yet clear but many students alleged that, he was dragging his Android phone with the robbers, before he was shot and the presumed robbers sped off on their motorbike.
Many parts of Federal Polytechnic Oko, are becoming unsafe for students, who have become targeted victims of organised crime, notorious among which is phone snatching at nights.
