 COAS DEEPENS VETERAN ENGAGEMENT, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO TROOP WELFARE, ARMY TRANSFORMATION The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to the welfare of serving and retired personnel, while advancing ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional, adaptable, technologically enabled and combat-ready force. The COAS stated this on Thursday, 17 September 2026, when he received members of the Executive Committee of the Course 39 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) United Welfare Association (UWA), led by its President, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola (Rtd), on  a courtesy visit to Army Headquarters, Abuja. NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR WOMEN SOCIETIES YOBE STATE PRESENT HEROES' AWARD TO CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has been presented with a “Heroes' Award" by the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Yobe State branch, today Monday, 28th January 2019. The presentation was done at the at Headquarters Sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Damaturu.
Making the presentation to the COAS, through the Acting Commander Sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Brigadier General Mohammed Dala, President NCWS, Hajiya Halima Joda, emphasized that the award was in recognition of the courageous and exemplary leadership by the COAS and the professionalism exhibited by the troops of the Nigerian Army since his assumption of office. She further stated that, “The efforts of the Nigerian Army cannot be overemphasized in all aspects of live today in Nigeria, more especially in the areas of protecting the territories of our Nation from all forms of terrorists attack’’.
Receiving the award on behalf of the COAS, the Acting Commander, Sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Brigadier General Mohammed Dala, appreciated members of the organization for their kind gesture and for deeming it fit to present an award of such magnitude to the COAS. He further said that this award will serve as morale booster to Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army, who are currently confronting various security issues across the country.
Brigadier General Dala, later presented sewing and grinding machines to members of NCWS Yobe state branch and urge them to use the items donated by the Nigerian Army Department of Civil-Military Affairs, for the empowerment of the less privileged and widows in the society.
