The Port Harcourt's Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa has disclosed that the task of checking vote buying in our electoral system was a collective responsibility. He stated this on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while speaking on a Radio Program.
Bawa, who featured on "Security Watch", an interactive and audience- participatory program on Wave 91.7 F.M, stressed that, every patriotic Nigerian, law enforcement agencies, civil Society groups and other pressure groups must embrace the public awareness campaign of the EFCC against vote buying.
"We must all be part of the campaign against vote buying. Any law enforcement agent can arrest anyone buying or selling votes and send the fellow to the EFCC for prosecution. The President has said it times without number that if we don't kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. So, we should all discourage vote buying because it is an electoral fraud.
He stated further that "what the EFCC is doing in its campaign against vote buying may appear intangible at the moment but when the results begin to come out, the nation will appreciate the efforts of the Commission".
