The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, Mrs. Solape Hammond has disclosed that plans have been put in place by the State Government to begin investment promotions with the Malaysian Government towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Hammond disclosed this at a meeting held recently in her office with a delegation of the Malaysia High Commission, led by the Trade Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Mohd Khairy Maidin.
She noted that Malaysia’s readiness to partner with the State in harnessing investment opportunities will be beneficial to both governments, stressing that investment opportunities will be identified in key sectors that can aid the achievement of the Global Sustainable Development Agenda.
“Lagos is ready to embrace any collaboration aimed at delivering tangible investments that can guarantee a better life for the majority of our people. The State Government is working round the clock to ensure that every Lagosian lives a decent life by having seamless access to basic necessities of life and this can only be achieved through execution of the 17 goals in the Global Sustainable Development Agenda”, she enthused.
The Special Adviser stated that efforts have reached an advanced stage for some officials of the Agency to go on trade visit at the instance of the Malaysia Investment Development Agency to understudy its global best practice for Investment Promotion, Aftercare, Global Outreach and Partnership.
In his remarks, the Trade Commissioner of the Malaysia High Commission who led the delegation, Mr. Khairy Maidin, noted that the Government of Malaysia is glad to partner with Lagos State Government in its desire to drive meaningful investments that can impact positively on the lives of Lagosians.
He recalled that having been adjudged the 5th biggest economy in Africa, Lagos should always be an investors’ delight, stressing that every responsible government looking for a potential investment destination should be willing to partner with the State.
The Trade Commissioner intimated the Office of the forthcoming Selangor International Business Summit 2019, which will hold in Malaysia between 8th and 13th October 2019, revealing that the five-day event will feature the Selangor International Expo, Selangor Business Conference as well as Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention.
While inviting the Lagos State Government to have a strong representation at the event, he said the summit will act as a platform to create and connect with local and foreign multinational corporations, small and medium enterprises as well as entrepreneurs - all in one place.
Speaking in the same vein, the President of Nigeria-Malaysia Business Council, Dr. Micheal Aderounmu expressed the need for Lagos to form a partnership with Malaysia, envisaging that the relationship will promote immense commercial and cultural ties towards the development of both economies to foster great economic growth.
