The Ogun State Government has begun the construction of mass housing estates in Abeokuta and other parts of the State to provide decent houses to the people at affordable prices.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, speaking at the Thanksgiving Service held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta in honour of his victory at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, noted that the housing project was embarked upon to address the housing deficit in the State.
The Governor who described shelter as one of the basic needs of man, said the construction of the houses, which would be sold to the people at affordable prices, would employ the services of artisans and other auxiliary workers.
"I have told our people that the houses should not be more four million naira each. This is to enable people have access to quality houses," he said.
Prince Abiodun who used the occasion to intimate the people of his stewardship in the last 100 days, said apart from reconstituting the State Security Trust Fund which is to be managed transparently, 100 patrol vans and 200 motorbikes had been purchased with an helicopter from the Federal Government to deal with security challenges in the State.
The Governor disclosed further that agreement for the construction of Ijebu Ode-Epe Road would soon be signed, while the Ogun and Lagos State governments had jointly sought the handing over of the Abeokuta-Ifo-Otta and Sagamu-Ikorodu Roads from the Federal Government for reconstruction, adding that this would boost business activities in the axis.
He said his administration had commenced the rehabilitation of rural and township roads, and the rehabilitation of 236 primary schools and health centres to provide quality education and healthcare services respectively to the people, pledging that all communities in the State would feel the impact of his administration.
On tertiary health institutions, the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu, the Governor said he had ordered the recruitment of more health personnel; while the State Hospital, Ilaro, now has a modern theatre for surgery, a modern laboratory, marternity ward and has enjoyed a general rehabilitation of its structures.
The Governor urged people to always thank God for His favours, adding that his government which is predicated on good governance, would ensure justice for all irrespective of religious, ethnic, political or social background.
In his opening remark, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, described the pre-election period as turbulent, while appreciating God for the victory in the election and at the tribunal.
He described the Governor as a man chosen by God at this time to lead a State populated by enlightened people, noting that the journey of providing focused and qualitative leadership had started in earnest.
