REPORT OF A CRASH ON THE SAGAMU - IJEBU-ODE - BENIN EXPRESSWAY INVOLVING A COMMUTTER BUS THAT CRASHED INTO RIVER OSOSA IN IJEBU ODE OGUN STATE TODAY.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

REPORT OF A CRASH ON THE SAGAMU - IJEBU-ODE - BENIN EXPRESSWAY INVOLVING A COMMUTTER  BUS THAT CRASHED  INTO RIVER OSOSA IN IJEBU ODE OGUN STATE ON WEDNESDAY 02 OCTOBER  2019

The Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State Command has announced with sadness  that a commuter bus  plunged into River Ososa in Ijebu Ode in Ogun State while traveling on the Sagamu - Ijebu Ode- Benin Expressway on Wednesday 02  October 2019 at about 1630hrs

The crash occured when the driver of the bus attempted  to overtake another vehicle  on the bridge   and unfortunately  lost control suspected to have been caused by tyre burst  and the bus thereafter  flipped into River Ososa. .

The FRSC rescue team moved in immediately to the scene for rescue operations

The FRSC Rescue Team includes the FRSC  Professional Divers who have dived into the river to conduct rescue operations  underneath  the river .
The Divers are still working hard to recover the  passengers in the Ill - fated  vehicle, which is made more difficult due to the risen level of the river caused by yesterday's heavy  rains, around the Ijebu Ode area

The  bus was travelling from the  Sagamu end of the Expressway heading towards  the Ijebu Ode section of the Expressway, in Ogun State.

This very sad development is at the heels of a similar Incident last week that involved a non academic staff of the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Ijebu Ode who plunged into the same river .

The FRSC Sector Commander, Ogun State Command,  Clement Oladele has expressed worries over the incident and has again advised motorists to drive cautiously especially around bridges, considering that the Expressway is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Motorists are therefore strongly advised to  reduce speed on abroaching bridges,  to prevent unpleasant situation of plunging into rivers.
The Sector Commander has assured that the rescue operations would not be called off till the vehicle and the occupants are  all  brought out from the river

The Sector Commander has also urged  the  Construction Company, RCC, to ensure that the safety railings around the bridge and other bridges enroute the Sagamu-  Ijebu Ode - Benin Expressway are quickly  replaced, with  illuminated warning signs provided around the bridge and the depression at the foot of the bridge quickly repaired, to prevent reoccurrence.

The Sector Commander also requested  motorists to caution dangereous  drivers or call FRSC toll free number 122, to report reckless driving.
