 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.     Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and some of his counterparts in other states will participate in a forum on deepening democratic governance in Nigeria scheduled to take place in Washington DC, United States of America, this week.
The forum which will open on Wednesday, November 20, is organised by the United States Institute of Peace, USIP.
The aim of the forum is to engage leading Nigerian, American, and international leaders from government, civil society, business and academia in fostering critical conversations and proferring solutions to Nigeria's governance issues.
In the letter inviting Governor Ortom to the Washington meeting, the Vice President of USIP for Middle East and Africa, Dr Michael Yaffe said the Nigerian Governors and other stakeholders will also deliberate on ways of ending polarisation and conflicts affecting the growth of Nigeria's democracy.
Governor Ortom who is to depart for the United States today will, after the Washington event, proceed to Brazil to attend an economic forum.
The forum which will take place in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis and Curitiba has one of the main themes as 'Doing Business In Benue'.
Other areas of focus during the event will be Renewable Energy and Agriculture Value Chain.
The Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, as well as other investment stakeholders are to play active roles in the 'Doing Business in Benue' forum.
Governor Ortom is expected back in Benue State on November 28.
