 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.     The attention of the Lagos State Safety Commission has been drawn to the #NativeLand19 concert which was held at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos recently and the unpleasant incidents that followed the concert.
Firstly, the Commission expresses sympathy with everyone who was injured, lost properties and had their enjoyment disrupted at the NativeLand19 concert. The Commission has commenced a full investigation will reach out to all parties involved in due course.
Secondly, the Commission wishes to notify the public that organizers of the event did not notify the Commission and did not put in place adequate safety measures nor obtain Safety Compliance Certificate from the Commission.
The Commission if using this medium to reiterate zero tolerance for event organizers, show promoters and venue owners who disregard health and safety measures at the detriment of the interest of the general public.
In line with the Lagos State Safety Commission Act, all events must be brought to the attention of the Commission before the date of the event and events without Safety Compliance Certificates will be shut down.
Lagosians are implored to report all safety infractions noticed to the Lagos State Safety Commission at Block 18b 2nd & 3rd Floor Secretariat, Alausa.
