Flashback Friday... Then and Now.
Can you relate??
By this time, we would be furiously preparing to take the kids to see Father Christmas as he was then called at Kingsway Stores or Leventis Stores . Excited kids would be queuing up to enter Santa’s grotto for their Xmas Presents.
Parents would be strolling through Ejis Garys Hall of Cards to buy Christmas Cards for their friends. We would troop to Eastern Shop Gaylads at Ogui rd. and Ultimate Gift Store at Agbani Rd to shop for the best Christmas presents and hampers. Ultimate Gifts has now expanded to become what we know today as Roban Stores .
The Sports Club would be getting ready to host their Annual Children’s Xmas Party.
At Artisan Market, you would see reluctant Christmas goats being tied to the back seats of motorcycles for onward transportation to bonfire site despite their defiant cries. The Bell ringing at Holy Ghost main market and the bustling motor parks with excited travelers and returnees....Next step would be to secure some hot okpa or spicy Abacha. Kenyatta Market would be bustling with parents buying Christmas Clothes and Shoes for their kids; Now the kids are all grown up.Otigba Junction and Chime Ave, New Haven would be agog with festive cheer. Carol singin and fireworks would rent the air by night.... Those were the days... Does anyone still remember any of this? Most coal city dwellers will recollect. Before we all start heading for the village for the festivities proper, ano m Ebeano, Sharing the Spirits of Christmas past and present @ 042, the place to be.....In the hands of God. Merry Chrismas, Everyone!  ''.More photos below.
