 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. By this time, we would be furiously preparing to take the kids to see Father Christmas as he was then called at Kingsway Stores or Leventis Stores . Excited kids would be queuing up to enter Santa’s grotto for their Xmas Presents.
Parents would be strolling through Ejis Garys Hall of Cards to buy Christmas Cards for their friends. We would troop to Eastern Shop Gaylads at Ogui rd. and Ultimate Gift Store at Agbani Rd to shop for the best Christmas presents and hampers. Ultimate Gifts has now expanded to become what we know today as Roban Stores .
The Sports Club would be getting ready to host their Annual Children’s Xmas Party.
At Artisan Market, you would see reluctant Christmas goats being tied to the back seats of motorcycles for onward transportation to bonfire site despite their defiant cries. The Bell ringing at Holy Ghost main market and the bustling motor parks with excited travelers and returnees....Next step would be to secure some hot okpa or spicy Abacha. Kenyatta Market would be bustling with parents buying Christmas Clothes and Shoes for their kids; Now the kids are all grown up.Otigba Junction and Chime Ave, New Haven would be agog with festive cheer. Carol singin and fireworks would rent the air by night.... Those were the days... Does anyone still remember any of this? Most coal city dwellers will recollect.
