 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers opened fire on a commercial vehicle, killing four travellers while two others are missing at Turunku village, in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A commercial driver, Aliyu Usman, who narrowly escaped the attack, told our reporter in Toto that the incident happened around 7:12 am on Tuesday. He said the gunmen in their large number with sophisticated weapons suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on a Volkswagen Golf, right in front of his vehicle. He said the gunmen killed four passengers inside the vehicle while two others, a male and female, are Missing.
“Actually, the vehicle loaded passengers in Toto by the road side heading to Umaisha town. “I was behind him going, until when the gunmen suddenly appeared from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle. “I quickly applied my brake and made a u-turn immediately,” he said. He said one of the gunmen’s bullet hit his vehicle but he managed to escape back to Toto town. He said the bodies of the travelers were later conveyed to Umaisha for burial. When contacted, the spokesman of Nasarawa State police command, ASP Ramhan Nansel, said; “It has not been brought to my notice.”.
