 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. Governor Samuel Ortom today swore in Dr. Emmanuel Saleh Ikwulono as Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Services to replace Dr. Sunday Ongbabo who resigned his appointment a week ago.
The Governor while performing the swearing-in ceremony, acknowledged the importance of the health ministry to healthcare delivery especially at the time of COVID-19, stressing that it cannot be left without a commissioner for too long.
He described Dr. Ikwulono as a good replacement for the outgone commissioner based on his credentials, noting that his appointment was based on merit and competence.
Governor Ortom charged health practitioners in the state to also give attention to other health challenges such as diabetes, hypethitis, malaria, typhoid among others which he noted are responsible for many deaths in the society.
The Governor who called on all stakeholders to join hands with the commissioner for enhanced service delivery in the health sector, also advised people of the state to always check their health status to enable them manage their system better.
The Health and Human Services Commissioner, Dr. Ikwulono, expressed appreciation to the Governor for finding him worthy to serve the state as commissioner and pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him.More photos below.
