 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Workers' strike: Engineer Sule convenes emergency meeting with commissioners, selected traditional rulers
His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, will meet with Honourable Commissioners and some selected traditional rulers, later today, with a view to settling the dispute with labour amicably.
Engineer Sule disclosed this while delivering a speech at a two-day stakeholders regional peace building dialogue, holding at the Taal Conference Hotel, on Tuesday.
While acknowledging that workers in the state have the right to protest over perceived grievances, the governor however warned that labour is overstepping its limits, by locking down government offices and preventing law abiding civil servants from carrying out their legitimate responsibilities.
