 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. EID EL KABIR: COAS OBSERVES EID PRAYERS AT THE FRONT LINES.[PHOTOS].#PRESS RELEASE.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has performed this year's Eid-El Kabir prayers with troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) at the 212 parade ground in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. 


Lieutenant General Yahaya observed the prayers along with Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, officers and soldiers of Theatre Command OPHK.


Delivering the EID sermon, the Acting Deputy Director Islamic Affairs 7 Division, Captain Mohammed Babangida prayed for peace and security of the nation. He made supplications to Allah for mercy, guidance and divine protection for the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari and all members of the Armed Forces, especially in the ongoing fight against insurgency and other security challenges in the country.
