 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Two Suspected Thieves Burnt Beyond Recognition In Awka 


Two suspected thieves were set ablaze yesterday, Tuesday, 20th July, 2021, opposite Queen suite, Abakaliki street, Awka, Anambra State, at 11 pm,  after a hot chase by a vigilante group an eyewitness disclosed. 


It was alleged that before the apprehension of the suspected thieves, they had engaged in theft, and made away with the phone of a passer-by. This act was said to have propelled the vigilante group to hunt them. 


The group which opened fire created panic in the temporary site (temp site) area sending people to their heels. However, after a clear chase of the suspected thieves, serenity was maintained in the area. 


It was gathered that the thieves were immediately set ablaze upon interception and their bodies burnt beyond recognition. 


Some passersby think that the act would serve as a deterrent to others who are or play to engage in robbery. 


No security agent was at the location as of the time of filing this report.
