 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. 5 PERSONS CRUSHED TO DEATH IN A FATAL ACCIDENT ALONG TOMBIA-AMASSOMA ROAD,LEADING TO THE NEWLY OPENED BAYELSA STATE AIRPORT.{PHOTOS}.

Five persons have been crushed to death in a fatal accident along Tombia-Amassoma road, leading to the newly opened Bayelsa State Airport.


The accident which happened on Thursday evening, August 19, was said to have involved a Venza car and two tricycles heading towards Amassoma community.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Stephen Jones, the driver of the Venza lost the control as a result of the downpour and rammed into two oncoming tricycles, leading to the death of five passengers with others injured.


He said that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had evacuated the corpses and deposited them at a mortuary in Yenagoa, while the injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment.


However, an official of the Bayelsa State Command of the FRSC, who did not want his name mentioned, said the accident occurred due to speeding by the Venza driver.


"The driver lost control and rammed into the tricycles,” he told Daily Trust


The Tombia-Amassoma road is said to have witnessed heavy traffic recently due to the commencement of commercial flight operations at the airport.


The chairman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Ogboin Clan, Central Zone Comr Luis James Asari condole with the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.


Addressing newsmen on Friday, Comr Asari adviced all motorist using that route to be very careful, especially at this rainy season as life itself has no duplicate.


"The Government should look critically into the happenings on this road as it claims lives and properties on almost daily basis as grasses are almost closing up the road especially at bend corners, and at this rainy reason," he said.


"I urge all drivers to be very careful as they use the road and drive defensively in other to save the cutting short of Innocent lives. I am also using this medium to extend my hands of solidarity to those wounded persons and I say am very sorry for the pains you must have passed through and pray that God should heal you all speedily." he added.


Meanwhile, friends have taken to Facebook to mourn one of the victims identified as Fyness Samuel.
