 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. PROCEEDINGS OF THE NIGERIAN SENATE OF TUESDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2021


Welcome to a new Legislative Day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria! 


Senate President Ahmad Lawan led the Principal Officers into the Chambers, took the official prayers and began the day's proceedings at 11:05am.


VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS

Senator Surajudeen Ajibola moved for the adoption of (first and second sitting) Votes and Proceedings for Thursday, 15th July, 2021. 


The motion was seconded by Senator Theodore Orji.


EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION 

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read three letters from President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR:


1. “Transmission of the Explosives Bill, 2021 to the National Assembly for consideration;


2. “Transmission for the Control of Small Arms And Light Weapons Bill, 2021 to the National Assembly for consideration;


3. “Addendum to the request of the Senate on concurrent approval of multilateral funds project under 2018-2021 federal government external borrowing plan.”


Senate President Ahmad Lawan then read a speech welcoming Senators from the recess and chatted a course for the Senate in the remaining part of the legislative year.


In his speech, the Senate President drew attention of the Senators to the President’s assent to the Petroleum Industry Bill on 16th August, 2021, and the setting up of an implementation Committee to start the execution of the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.  


On the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2010, he noted that there are some differences between the two versions of the Bill from both chambers and said a Conference Committee will soon be set up to harmonize the two versions.

He assured that expedient action will be taken on the process to ensure that the National Assembly is able to transmit the harmonized version to the President for his assent.


Furthermore, the Senate President applauded and commended the Armed Forces for the recent successes recorded in their fight against insurgency and banditry in our Country, urging them to sustain the campaigns until the insurgents and bandits are rooted out in our Country.


In conclusion, he reiterated that the Ninth Senate will be the one that works for Nigerians and this has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. 


“We must therefore remain focused on this altruistic and patriotic path, in order to continue to provide pro – people and life improving legislative interventions throughout our legislative mandate,” he said.


Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi rose to announce the demise of Hon. Omolafe Isaac Adedayo who represented Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.


“I rise in accordance with the tradition of this Senate to move two motions; one, for the suspension of all Orders scheduled for consideration on the Order Paper, and for this distinguished Chamber to observe one minute silence in honour of the departed.” - Senate Leader


Minority Leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe seconded.


Senate observed a minute silence in honor of the deceased Honorouble member.


ADJOURNMENT 

Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi moved that plenary be adjourned to another legislative day. 


Minority Leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe seconded.


Plenary was adjourned to Wednesday, 15th September, 2021.
