 BENUE BOOSTS CHILD PROTECTION WITH GRADUATION OF 60 UNICEF-BACKED SOCIAL WORKERS  Benue State has taken a major step toward strengthening child protection and social welfare services with the graduation of 60 Auxiliary Social Workers (ASWs) trained to serve vulnerable children and families at the grassroots. PSYCHOTIC INMATE,OTHERS REGAIN FREEDOM AS ANAMBRA CHIEF JUDGE,JUSTICE ANYACHEBELU,EXTENDS JAIL DELIVERY EXERCISE TO NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE,MEDIUM SECURITY CUSTODIAL CENTRE,NNEWI.[PHOTOS].

Having spent six years in custody, and in consideration of his mental health condition, the Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, today, 7th December 2021, granted bail to one Chikwado Ikwueze at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Medium Security Custodial Centre, Nnewi, as he extended his jail delivery exercise to the facility, in exercise of powers vested in him as the Chief Judge of the State.


Others include one Okwudili Mbanusi, who appeared in Court last in 2018 over alleged serial burglary, but has not perfected his bail conditions, as well as one Justin John, an armed robbery suspect who hails from Plateau State, and has been in detention for over three years following his inability to establish contact with family or relatives for perfection of his bail conditions.


The exercise, which has taken place at Medium Security Custodial Centres in Onitsha and Ekwulobia, will end at Awka facility in days time.


In his opening remark before a Court session at the facility, the Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Anyachebelu emphasized that the exercise is part of activities to mark the 2021/2022 Legal year ceremonies, and is aimed at giving priorities to people who have spent long time in detention, women, inmates with medical conditions, juveniles, and at some intervals, cases lawyers have interests in.


Cases bordering on murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, burglary, among others are being entertained at the facility by Chief Justice Anyachebelu and other Judges from Ihiala and Nnewi Judicial Divisions.
