 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta. Ash Wednesday: Archbishop Ibezim Charges Christians To Renew Their Lives, Deepen Their Relationship With God



Special services and masses were celebrated today in different churches to mark the beginning of lenten season which is called Ash Wednesday.

Many faithful offering themselves before God in penitence and ready to journey with Christ for fourty days and night of the season. 

The Lenten season reminds Christians of their mortality through the imposition of Ash on their foreheads.

In a sermon at the Cathedral Church Of Saint Faith,vAwka, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim said that at ash wednesday, Christian are reminded of their sinful nature in which Christ came to reconcile them with God .

Most Reverend Ibezim, the Bishop, Diocese Of Awka centers who spoke on the theme: 'possessing the land, recovering our lost possession' said that Christians through the season should meet God in their secret places as He is interested to deepen their relationship with him.

The service attracted the clergy and their wives in Awka Diocese to be marked with ashes from the Archbishop, Most Reverend Ibezim.

Also, Chaplain Of Divine Mercy Chaiplancy, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, Reverend Father Justin Ezechukwu said that at Ash Wednesday, God is reminding each and everyone to embark on his mission,bgive alms and pray ceaselessly.

Reverend Father Ezechukwu said the season of Lent calls for sober reflection and humility before God and a time for Christian faithful to renew their lives. 

Series of prayers were offered for peaceful transition of government in in the state and peace in the nation.
