 President Trump awarded inaugural FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup draw in Washington  Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President presented the honour onstage at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, saying Trump had been selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world”. “This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” Infantino said, after Trump took the stage to accept the trophy, a medal and certificate. “There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”   FIFA says the prize is for “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions”.  Accepting the award, Trump called it “one of the great honours of my life”, before claiming to have “saved millions and millions of lives – the Congo is an example, over 10 million people killed and it was heading for another 10 million very quickly. LAWMA ACADEMY TO HOLD ESSAY COMPETITION ON WASTE


LAWMA Academy, the educational arm of Lagos Waste Management Authority, is set to hold its second essay competition on Waste tagged: “Impacts of Waste Containerisation on Effective Waste Management".

A release issued by the Director, Public Affairs (LAWMA), Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, said the competition is aimed at promoting awareness on the recently launched "Adopt-a-Bin Programme", as well as broadening participants' knowledge in the area of waste management and environmental sustainability.

Her words: "Our portal is open for the second edition of the essay competition on Waste with the topic: “Impact of Waste Containerisation of Effective Waste Management”. This is in line with LAWMA's current initiative to promote proper waste containerisation through the Adopt-a-Bin programme launched on 23rd February, 2022. We believe that this will help to know residents’ views on waste containerisation as well as their recommendations on remodelling the programme".

Mrs. Kadiri stated further that the essay competition is open to persons from 18 - 30 years old, while the winner will receive a cash prize of ₦50,000; the first runner-up will get ₦30,000 and ₦20,000 for the second runner-up.

While advising participants to visit LAWMA's portal for guidelines, send emails to academy@lawma.gov.ng or call 08035016056/07080601020 for inquiries, the Director stated that the maximum essay length is 1500 words and must be submitted in a Word Document file with a Times New Roman font and Size 12.

“Eligibility criteria include being resident of Lagos State, accompanying the essay with the date of birth, gender, address and occupation as well as being a follower of all LAWMA's social media handles”, she added.

Recall that the first edition of the competition was conducted in August 2020, with over 250 participants.
