 "Enugu government has voted N10b for vehicle manufacturing programme that would see the state assemble vehicles" -Chris-Robert Ozongwu Enugu state Commissioner for budget and planning Chris-Robert Ozongwu has said that the government had voted N10b for vehicle manufacturing programme that would see the state assemble vehicles. 2,100 taxis are expected to be assembled for the administration’s youth empowerment scheme and the Distress Response Squad, DRS, the state’s special police unit. He also said that the government was confident that the 2026 budget would outperform the 2025 budget, adding that Governor Peter Mbah runs the state with a private sector mentality. He also said that the allocation of 51.1 per cent and 40.1 per cent of the total budget to the economic sector and social sector, respectively, underscored the administration’s commitment to private sector-driven economic growth and human development. TWO WEEKS AFTER RETURNING FROM UKRAINE, FINAL-YEAR STUDENT DIES IN SOKOTO. (PHOTO).

Two weeks after returning from Ukraine to Nigeria, a final-year student of medical studies and indigene of Sokoto State, Uzaifa Halilu Modachi, has passed on.

Though details of his death were scanty as of the time of this report, it was gathered that Uzaifa was buried according to Islamic injunctions.

According to Tribune, the deceased, it was gathered, had stayed in Ukraine for some years and was a final year student of Zaporozhye State Medical University, Ukraine, who was preparing for his final year examination before the war broke out.

He was one of many Nigerians that were evacuated from the country when the war started.

Reacting to his death, his father, Habibu Haliru Modachi, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, said, “God gives and God takes away life and that’s how he wanted it to happen, there is no doubt about it.

“Had it been he died in Ukraine, so many things would be said about him, that he was either killed by the Russian bombardment or had an accident or even was accidentally shot and killed in the crossfire.

“We are grateful to God, we also thank the Nigerian government particularly Sokoto State for taking the decision to evacuate them before the full escalation of the war.”
