 VAR official caught flashing ‘white supremacy’ gesture at World Cup game Fare Network, an organisation established to counter inequality and discrimination in football, has called on FIFA to remove a video assistant referee (VAR) official from the World Cup after he flashed an allegedly white supremacist gesture during a match. The incident happened when Germany faced Curaçao on Sunday. When the pre-game footage of the official broadcast cut to the VAR team, Shaun Evans, one of the officials, was seen making a reversed “okay” sign with his right hand in front of his right leg. Anti-Defamation League, a global anti-bigotry organisation, designated the gesture as a hate symbol since 2019. In a statement, Fare Network, a long-time partner of FIFA to monitor racist and discriminatory behaviour, said “the gesture used clearly resembles an upside-down ‘OK’ hand symbol used as a ‘white power’ symbol in global far-right circles”. “Clearly, this official should have no further role to play...

Monday Sit-At-Home: Churches In Awka Answer Call To Pray Against Insecurity




Churches in Anambra State Capital Territory, Awka have joined in the special prayers requested by the Anambra State Government to enthrone peace and tranquility in the State.

The Anambra State Government and the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Bishops and Archbishops on the State of Insecurity in the Igbo Homesteads at the end of a one day peace building and security dialogue last Saturday agreed to hold prayers across the state today. 

The prayers is planned to mark the end of the regular Monday Sit-At-Home that started in the state on August 9, 2021.

At St Patrick's Cathedral, Awka, the prayer procession which started at 11am was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Awka, the Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor. 

It was well attended by both the clergy and the Laity of the Church. 

At the Cathedral Church of St Faith Awka and the Church of the Holy Spirit, Paul University, Awka, the special prayer started at 10am and lasted for one hour.
