 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo. DEFENCE RETREAT: Defence Minister Assures Use Of Enhanced Technology In Combating Security Threats.

The Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has assured the use of enhanced technology-driven surveillance and operational security in combating security threats.

Gen. Magashi made this known during the opening ceremony of the Defence Retreat in Asaba, Delta State with the theme, ‘Shaping the Armed Forces of Nigeria for current and future security challenge’.

He said that “the huge inroads by the Nigerian Army in cyber and forensic areas, the employment of the Falcon Eye infrastructure by the Nigerian Navy and the acquisition of unmanned aerial systems (Drones) by the Nigerian Air Force are some of the proves of Government’s investment in upgrading the capabilities of the Nigerian military”.

The Minister noted that some of the technological breakthroughs are enhancing situational awareness for troops and better operational security in the country.

Gen.  Magashi appreciated the chief of Defence Staff; Gen. LEO Irabor for the initiative in organizing the Defence Retreat tagged “Asaba 2022”. He charged the participants to take maximum advantage of the platform to identify possible areas that require tinkering to meet the present-day security challenges.

The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the new National Military Strategy by the Minister, supported by the Governor of Delta State, Senator Arthur Okowa and other dignitaries.

The retreat was attended by some members of the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, retired Military hierarchies as well as traditional rulers.
