THIS DAY IN IGBO HISTORY : 

4 MAY 1996.

DIM CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU IS CONFERRED THE TITLE ‘ EZEIGBO ‘, and BIANCA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU AS ‘IYOM ONWA EZEIGBO’.

It was a day of pomp and ceremony, and a congregation of the premier traditional rulers of Igboland 26 years to this day, as Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was conferred the traditional title of ‘Ezeigbo Gburugburu ‘ by the Adama Nri, Traditional custodians of the original Ofo Nri-Menri and Alo Nri-Menri located at Nri, ( considered the traditional homeland of Ndigbo) which are symbols of kingship, authority and power respectively throughout Igboland, and which the Adama have guarded jealously at the sanctuary at Nri from time immemorial.

With this handover of `Ofo’, you are deemed to have the authority to pursue your just cause throughout Igboland and with ‘Alo’ you are granted the strength and power to pursue your just cause for the benefit of humanity.

Chief Mrs Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, Anyanwu Ututu, was conferred the title of ‘Iyom Onwa Ezeigbo’ and officially welcomed into the Ōgbo Ōdu Matriarchy.

Sadly, many of the illustrious sons and traditional rulers of Igboland that can be seen in these pictures have journeyed to meet their ancestors. But we are here. And We remember and celebrate them today. Many were Great kings, men of Valour whose feats and exploits have long ascended the realms of Folklore. Yes, Ndigbo are indeed a great people and yes indeed..it was a memorable day !
