Amudo Community Commences N4 Million Awka Road Rehabilitation

Amudo community in Awka South local government area of Anambra state has commenced the rehabilitation of Aroma – Ifite road at the state capital to the tune of N4 Million.

Since the rains motorists plying the roads in the area have been lamenting the state of the roads which has been affecting commercial activities at the heart of the capital.

According to the Chairman Amudo Community Chief Timothy Mmuotolo;

“We are not happy over the deplorable state of the road in Arroma junction which is the center of Awka capital.

Our brother who facilitated this project approached me and stressed the need for a palliative work of the road and that is exactly what we are doing.

We know that government cannot do everything and Gov Charles Soludo just came into office and before he would start work on roads we need to assist him because we voted for him.

The project is likely to cost between N3.250 million and N4 million to rebuild and we had to tax ourselves to do that.”

Also speaking the facilitator Mr Uchenna Ozoekwe said that he came home for business in December only to discover the helpless state of the roads.

“We cannot continue like this and keep waiting for government to do all things and that is why we have to resort to self help and this is also being done in neighbouring communities.”

Amudo Community however appealed to the state government to consider the construction of a hanging bridge connecting the Anambra Water Corporation end at the Step to the other end of Ifite road to ease the traffic at Arroma junction.

This is coming as Gov Charles Soludo has announced the declaration of a state of emergency on roads in the major cities in the state.

According to him during the celebration of his one hundred days in office;

“We declared a state of emergency on roads and traffic and we are preparing to flag-off the construction of over 220 kilometres of roads as the rains subside; getting touts out of our roads and markets; redefining the purpose and character of government, among other things.

Declared emergency on traffic management and the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) which is being strengthened to deliver.

Hydrological studies and hydraulic designs of storm water discharge channels as well as engineering designs almost completed for over 220 Kilometres of roads scattered all over Anambra state and these roads will all be flagged off for construction before the dry season commences.

Facility Management (cleaning services for government offices) down from N137 million per month to N11 million per month, with a savings of N126 million per month or N1.512 billion per annum. With the savings in one month, we have fixed the dreaded Amansea road with its nightmarish logjam, the washout portion of federal road at Onitsha, and still have change to intervene in one other terrible spot. That’s the new normal for our administration: cutting waste and delivering service to the people!
