Rebels to withdraw from key DR Congo town 'after US request' The M23 rebel group has said it would withdraw from the eastern DR Congo town of Uvira at the request of the US administration, which had criticised seizure of the town last week as a threat to mediation efforts. The rebels entered Uvira, on the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met with US President Donald Trump in Washington and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept." Mrs Soludo Becomes Anambra State Net Ambassador

Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has been made the Anambra State Net Ambassador.

Mrs Soludo received the ambassadorial badge during the official flag off of the distribution of 3.8 million free Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to Anambra homes, in Awka.

The Governor's wife was given the honour in recognition of her age-long efforts in hygiene and healthy living.

Accepting the investiture, Mrs Soludo noted that she was disturbed that malaria is still handled lightly despite that the disease is one of the major public health problems in Nigeria, with over 97% of the population, especially pregnant women and children under the age of 5 at risk.

She stated that the free insecticide treated nets, which would be distributed across Anambra households, emphasizes the readiness of her husband's administration to tackle malaria-related issues in the state head on.

Mrs Soludo also urged households in Anambra State to capitalize on the dividends of the programme by providing accurate information needed for the commencement and distribution of the nets which will begin from 2nd to 17th of August, 2022.

The free insecticide net exercise is a partnership between the Anambra State Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Health and the open philanthropic funding through the Malaria Consortium.
