 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". THEATRE COMMANDER OPHK COMMISSIONS INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS IN GIWA BARRACKS


The Theatre Commander, Major General Christopher Musa has on Friday, 29 July 2022 commissioned a Borehole Water System at 21 Special Armoured Brigade Medical Reception Station (MRS) as well as a newly renovated Brigade Commander's Guest House in Giwa Barracks.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander lauded the Commander 5 Brigade, Brigadier General GO Olorunyomi for embarking on projects geared towards improving the welfare of the barracks community. In his address to barrack women, he encouraged the entire barrack community to imbibe good maintenance culture and utilize the project appropriately.

While assuring the public of the military's commitment and resilience in ending the war against terrorism, Maj Gen Musa urged barrack women to continue to support their spouses and the military in general. In his words he said, "your support means a lot to us, at most times it is our primary morale booster and the knowledge of it keeps us going and pushing hard".

Highlight of the event was the visit to the MRS, assessment tour of the barracks, presentation of plaquea and cash donation to barrack women.
