 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. MAN KILLS FATHER FOR MARRYING SECOND WIFE IN NIGER



A middle-aged man, Kazeem Muhammed, has fled after he killed his father following a dispute in Kwankashe area of Suleja, Niger State.

The sad incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday morning.

It was learnt that Kazeem had been angry with his father for getting married to a second wife for over a year.

According to Daily Trust, a brother to the deceased, Isah, said that soon after killing his father, Kazeem fled.

He said, “The boy is a drug addict and is always involved in bad activities. While they were arguing on Wednesday morning, he carried a plank and hit his father who fell on the floor. Immediately Kazeem noticed that he ran away. We rushed my brother to the hospital, but he died afterwards.”

He further said the matter had been reported to the appropriate authorities while his brother’s remains had been buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, the police in the area declined comment on the incident.
