Anambra Government Asks Hoteliers To Register Their Hotels, Other Hospitality Outfits

Anambra State Government has directed hoteliers and owners of hospitality facilities operating without registering their facilities, to kindly register with their Anambra State Identification Number at the sum of two thousand naira and as well obtain operational licence.

The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, gave the directive while interacting with hoteliers and owners of hospitality outfits in a town hall meeting at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

Also at the meeting were the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief. Chikodi Anara, and the Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Richard Madiebo.

Mr Onyenji expressed worry that many hotels in the state are operating without operational licence and registration, saying that the Soludo government will not tolerate such.

"We need to have a smart megacity that will lead to a prosperous nation. Registration and regulations of hotels are very important to us as a government and we must have your manifest. Most of you are operating without operational licence. Every sector of hospitality industry must have a license to operate. And we must key into international tourism and hospitality standards of operations" Onyenji explained.

"We will also open our office in the Anambra State International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, for people to know the hospitality facilities in the state so that people can easily get access to them."

Commissioner Onyenji who further said that tourism industry is the major revenue earner for many countries of the world, urged the hoteliers to assist the government to make the state a suitable environment where they will operate with ease.

Saying that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is interested in the tourism industry, the Commissioner added that the state government has suspended gambling and casino activities in hotels, restaurants and bars.

"We won't allow anybody from anywhere to set his machine wrongly and defraud our people. A few months ago people were defrauded, so, we want to tell every hospitality outfit housing businesses, especially gaming machines to come to us so we can look into their system. The tourism ecosystem must be taken care of, so that people will get the best services, attentions and security they needed", He warned.

On the area of security, Commissioner Anara, urged them to always submit their manifest to security agencies concerned on daily basis in case of fraudulent activities and emergency situations.

"Security of lives and property is one of the key agenda of this government. Security is very fundamental to your operations and successes of your businesses. Therefore, support the government in order to create an environment for you businesses to thrive", Commissioner Anara advised.

For, Mr. Madiebo, he appealed to them to pay up their taxes and levies.
