Anambra Government Assures Flood Affected Communities Of Continued Support

 
Anambra State Government has assured flood affected Communities of continued support.

Gov. Charles Soludo said that his administration would ensure that the welfare of people in the Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) is well taken care off at this time of their trials.

"We are making sincere efforts towards bringing lasting solution to the flood disaster ravaging some parts of the state ", the governor said this while inspecting flood disaster in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra West (LGA).

This inspection exercise is in view of ascertaining the condition of the flood victims and how the state government could double efforts to ensure their wellbeing until the flood abates.

During the inspection visit, we saw that most buildings in the area including the Ogbaru LG headquarters,  schools, shops, churches, and residential houses are already submerged by the flood as residents access their houses with local boats.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim who represented Gov. Soludo described his administration as people oriented.

Dr. Ibezim urged authorities in the holding centres to up their game and make sure that the displaced persons are properly taken care of.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Ben Obidike explained that the health needs of the people are well taken care of, that they have provided them with drugs, mosquito nets.

We have activated all the Camps clinic with medical personnel deployed so that our people will have access to care, as well arranged ambulances in case of emergency.

The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Chief Paul Odenigbo said; there are one thousand six hundred displaced persons at the Ogbaru holding centre, with no fewer than six hundred at Crowther Primary School Onitsha holding centre.

Chief Odenigbo assured that the SEMA will continue to play their part in cushioning the effects of the disaster on the victims.

Some of the displaced persons at the holding centres in their remarks, Mr Emmanuel Onwuadi, and Mrs Christiana Ofili thanked the state government for coming to their aid and providing for them since they came into the holding centre and appealed to the government to improve on the welfare packages in the centres.
