 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Police Return N303k Extorted By Operatives 

The Police have returned the sum of N303,000, which was extorted from one Ejiro Ogene by three policemen in Abuja on Tuesday.

Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared photos of the moment when the money was returned to the owner on Thursday and the names of the policemen, who extorted him. He added that the policemen have been arrested.

Adejobi said, “Insp Nuhu Shaibu, Sgt Guusu Collins, Sgt Aragon Felix. They are attached to the Anti-Violence Squad of the FCT Command, Abuja. They were arrested for obtaining 303,000k from Ogene in Abuja on Tuesday. The money has been recovered from them and handed over to the complainant, one Ogene  Ejiro. We always urge you to report any misdeed to us. We will act as appropriate.”
