 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe. CP condemns attempted murder on Ruth Tamuno in Rivers

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Okon O. Effiong has condemned  in its entirety, the mob action on one Ruth Tamuno on 14/11/2022, whereby some group of boys numbering about six, led by one Samuel Matthew beat her up and inserted substance on her private part, for allegedly stealing of an Iphone. CP Okon described the act as barbaric and inhumane. 

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP GRACE IRINGE-KOKO said  CP has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to conduct a discreet investigation on one Samuel Matthew and Emmanuel Iweruma who were arrested in connection with the case, as efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects.

The statement reiterated that no matter the circumstances, resorting to self-help to carry out such act without recourse to extant laws and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, is totally condemnable and tantamount to violation of the law. 

The statement however said the CP urged citizens of the State to always be law-abiding and not to take laws into their hands, they should also assist the Police in the fight against criminals and their activities in the State.
