 Republic of Congo holds presidential election, internet disruption reported Internet connectivity across the Republic of Congo was disrupted on Sunday as voters cast ballots in a presidential election, global internet watchdog NetBlocks said. Network data indicated a nation-scale disruption to internet access, the watchdog said on X. A similar near-total nationwide internet blackout was recorded during the country’s March 2021 presidential election, lasting about three days, according to NetBlocks. Polls opened at 6 am (0500GMT) in the country’s presidential election and will remain open until 6 pm (1700GMT). More than 2.6 million registered voters aged 18 and above are eligible to cast their ballots. I'M MOTIVATED BY OUR SOCIAL CONTRACT TO MAKE IMO STATE BETTER - GOV. UZODIMMA TO GUILD OF EDITORS


The Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has stated that his major focus remains the continous delivery of quality governance for the betterment of Ndi Imo.

The Governor made this known at the opening ceremony of the 18th All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) at Imo Concord Hotel, Owerri.

Governor Uzodimma stressed that irrespective of the jaundiced narratives of fake news and rumor mongering by the opposition, the Shared Prosperity Government has remained focused on positively impacting the lives of Ndi Imo.

Speaking on Political Landscape, credible elections and the role of the editors, Governor Uzodimma said by virtue of their influence and roles in society editors have confirmed to be Stakeholders of the polity.

He however suggested the need for an in-house cleansing to save journalism from the hands of quacks bastardizing the noble profession. According to him "the quality of practice in journalism is dropping, and needs to be reviewed".

In reiterating his administration's support for the media, the Governor urged the editors and journalists at large to distance themselves from percuniary interests and instead be guided by their professionals ethics.

Speaking earlier, President of Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr. Mustapha Isa, charged Editors to rise to the need for sufficient and credible information to the people. 

Present at event were the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emeka Nduka, the former President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Declan Mbadiwe, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Oguike, Special Adviser to the Governor on New and Electronic Media Center, Mrs. Nneamaka Okafor and a host of Government appointees and dignitaries.
