By Uzo Ugwunze
Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has commenced the construction of 50 two bedroom flat apartment bungalows for 50 indigent widows in Oraifite community, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The founder SEOF, Sir Emeka Offor made the pronouncement during the December wrapper, 50kg rice, food items distribution and empowerment programmes for 3000 widows in Oraifite community held at SEOF Warehouse, Oraifite.
According to Sir Offor, We are willing and ready to complete the construction of 50 houses for inidigent widows within the next six months. One bungalow has been completed and furnished with modern home appliances to the tune of N10 million and handed over to Mrs Blessing Nwaeze.
"Last November we commenced construction of nine ultra modern bungalows. We are through with the foundation level and nine other widows shall be packing into their new houses by April. The funds have been approved, between today and June, another 40 widows must pack into their new bungalows.
"My interest is to ensure that no single widow in the entire Oraifite community will have any reason to be unhappy. Remember that this is the fourth 50kg bag of rice you are receiving this year because you are given a bag of rice quarterly.
"Henceforth, I will increase your monthly stipends to meet up the current economic realities. Every widow here is going home with a wrapper cloth too," Offor said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Manager SEOF , Sir Tony Obi after eulogizing his principal said that the foundation was started 2003 as a youth empowerment and scholarship scheme but in 2007 the widows were co-opted .
"Sir Emeka Offor has passion for widows and orphans. In 2007 SEOF floated a welfare scheme for widows, from getting 50kg bags of rice quarterly, the widows now have a co-operative/micro-finace bank where they get soft loans for their petty trading.
"This year he decided to put roofs over the heads of less privileged widows who live in dilapidated buildings. Each building/finishing will cost N10 million. Many of these widows' children are under scholarship from primary to University level just to ensure that no Oraifite person is left behind,'' Obi said.
The duo of the President General, Oraifite, Chief Sunny Igboanuzue and Chairman Seahorse Oil, HRH Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, in their separate speeches said that they learnt the act of philanthropy through Sir Offor, urging other illustrious sons and daughters of Igboland to emulate the act of becoming a blessing to other members of the society.
In his remarks, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo noted that Sir Offor was doing what government should do for her citizens, urging other people to appreciate good things and replicate same in all communities of Anambra State.
Mrs Obinabo further advised women to join Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra in fighting insecurity by instilling good morals in their children, saying that no parent should push the child into getting quick riches on the fast lane which does not endure but rather have terrible consequences.
Master Ekene Nwaeze, the son of one of the beneficiaries of the 50 bungalows for Widows, Mrs Nwaeze of Umuezobi Oraifite said that they would ever remain grateful to Sir Offor for raising them from the dust to a palace of a home.
"Today we and our mother enjoy plasma Television, air conditioner, gas cooker, funiture unlike before when we cook with firewood or sleep with mats. God will continue to bless Sir Emeka Offor who has done more than what our late father could provide for us before his demise. (MOI)
