Heartbreaking news from Peshawar where 59 Pakistanis have lost their lives in a terror attack, including 27 police officers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that that there was "no doubt terrorism is our foremost national security challenge".

Taking to Twitter after visiting Peshawar, where a bomb blast claimed the lives of at least 44 people, he said: "The sheer scale of the human tragedy is unimaginable. This is no less than an attack on Pakistan. The nation is overwhelmed by a deep sense of grief."

“While the pain of the grieving families cannot be described in words, I express my heartfelt condolences and most sincere sympathies. My message to the perpetrators of today’s despicable incident is that you can’t underestimate the resolve of our people,” he added.

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has taken responsibility for Monday's suicide bombing that has claimed 32 lives and left more than 140 people injured.

Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while talking to Geo News, said that the mosque's roof fell due to the intensity of the blast, adding that hospitals have been overwhelmed.

He said that even though they receive threats, people cannot be stopped from entering a mosque.

According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Muhammad Ijaz Khan, a number of people are still stuck under the rubble after the roof collapsed.

The bomb blast ripped through a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines area around 1:40 pm, right as people lined up to offer zuhr prayers. It has been reported that the suicide bomber was standing in the first row at the mosque when he exploded the bomb.
