 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. El-Rufai Commends NAF For Improved Security In Kaduna

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its efforts in restoration of relative peace in the state.  

Speaking yesterday  when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao in his office at Headquarters NAF, Abuja, El-Rufai expressed gratitude of the people of Kaduna State to the CAS for improved security situation in the state.

In a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) Air Cdre Wap Maigida,  the governor disclosed that in the last three months, there had been a significant improvement in the security situation in the state, as several  terrorists’ commanders have been neutralized by the NAF while the remnants have relocated from the state.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State, I came to thank the Chief of the Air Staff, Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding, officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force for the excellent work done and still being done in Kaduna State. The security situation in our state and environs has improved drastically. Please keep up the excellent work,” he said.

In his response, Air Marshal Amao thanked the governor for the visit as well as the support and cooperation the NAF has been receiving from the government and people of Kaduna State in tackling the security challenges in the entire North West region.
