 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. LAGOS ARRAIGNS COUPLE FOR ASSAULTING CHILDREN 


The Lagos State Government has reiterated its zero tolerance to all forms of Child Abuse, Domestic and Sexual Violence, assuring residents of its unrelenting resolve to uphold the tenets of the rule of law, Safeguarding, and Child Protection in the State.  


The Executive Secretary, Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi stated this following a viral case that led to the arraignment of a couple before the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court Ogba, for the alleged physical assault, meted out against their two children, aged Five and Two years old.  


Vivour-Adeniyi said it was alleged that the suspects have been maltreating the two children by beating them with belts, canes and horsewhip, adding that it took the intervention of a dedicated reporter who ensured the case was brought to the attention of the relevant authorities, including the Policemen at the Idimu Divisional Police Station, who immediately arrested the couple.  


She further disclosed that the suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate B.O. Osunsami, at the Samuel Ilori Court Ogba, on the 16th of January 2023, while the Directorate of Public Prosecutions has also requested for the duplicate case file for necessary action.  


While informing that the children have been taken into protective custody by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Vivour-Adeniyi implored residents not to hesitate to report all issues bordering on Domestic and Sexual Violence by calling the DSVA Toll Free line - 08000-333-333 for a prompt response.

Nigeria Police arrested mother and her partner for brutalizing her two children aged 5 & 2


The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a mother, Busola Oyediran and her lover, Akebiara Emmanuel, on Friday, January 13, following reports by neighbours for allegedly physically assaulting their two children aged five and two.


The concerned neighbours had alerted the police of the constant physical abuse of the minors by their mother and her partner. Following the report, the police stormed the Egbeda/Idimu home of the couple and arrested them. The police later visited the hospital where the neighbours had taken the battered children for treatment.


When confronted, their mother claimed the children fell from a motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.


Confirming the arrest , the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin, said the couple is currently in detention and will be arraigned in court by Monday, January I6. He said the father of the children has been alerted.
