Do not contemplate suicide, it shall be better says cleric

The Vicar, St. Paul's Catholic Church Akpo, Rev. Fr. Johnpaul Okechukwu has called on Nigerians not to contemplate suicide amid skyrocketed petroleum product price/difficulties rising from naira face change.

Fr. Okechukwu said this in a homily during Mass, at the Church, on Sunday.

The cleric said, "Heightened difficulties being witnessed in Nigeria signifies new dawn for the country. We need to live to see the new Nigeria that is coming. We owe ourselves the duty of courageousness and encouragement to others.

"We are the salt and the light of the earth, as such should make good use of the turbulent time that we are therein.

"There is no money to buy something in the market. The little at home should be managed with joy among family members. With love and prayers, little could be satisfactory."

Fr Okechukwu reminded Nigerians about upcoming General Elections, explaining that difficulties being passed through, ought to make us detest vote buying and selling.

"We ought to see the election as a personal business and give it the attention we use to give to our personal businesses.

"It is about the future of our country. If we get it wrong, we will all be bad for it. So, work toward getting it right in the interest our dear country."

Shortly after Mass, during announcement, Fr Okechukwu took time to educate electorate on how to vote. 

"It does not make sense to go to the polling boot, spend time, only to cast vote that would be declared void. So, do well to vote right.

"Use your small finger to pick ink, press it at the centre of the box of choice, clean your finger properly, making sure that no ink is left on it.

"Then fold your ballot paper backward that the ink of the vote does not spill over to any other part of the ballot paper.

" Make sure that your finger print or photograph is captured by the gadget meant for capturing. Let us vigorously do these things to achieving an election that represents the people's wish." (MOI)
