 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

PORT HARCOURT: Fire destroys goods and properties worth millions of naira at Ojoto market, Azikiwe street

Fire has destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira at Ojoto Market, Azikiwe Street in the Mile 2 axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to correspondent said the fire started from an electric spark in a shop after power was restored at the market at about 9:15 yesterday night.

The witnesses also emphasised that the presence of diesel and other petroleum products that were stored in the market for sale ignited the fire.

Our correspondent reports that the angry youths chased away the operatives of fire service who arrived around 10:42pm, almost 90 minutes after the fire  started.

The crowd were angry that the firemen allegedly showed up late, since men and youths of the community had already gone far in putting off the fire. 

Our correspondent also reports that the presence of the personnel of Azikiwe Police Division prevented hoodlums from stealung goods and properties recovered from the shops.
