 Burkina Faso releases detained Nigerian soldiers The 11 Nigerian military officials on board the C-130 aircraft that made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso have been released. The soldiers were held last week by Burkinabe authorities over what they described as violations of their airspace. Their release Wednesday night comes about nine days after their arrest. The spokesperson of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed that the officials were released on Wednesday. The detained soldiers were released after a high-level Nigerian delegation visited Burkina Faso. The delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, met with the government of Burkina Faso to resolve the disagreement over the emergency landing. ENUGU STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE OF 24TH APRIL 2023


ENUGU POLICE OPERATIVES ARREST, ARRAIGN AND HAVE A YOUNG MAN, 24, REMANDED FOR STRANGLING TO DEATH AND BURING FRIEND, 44, IN A SHALLOW GRAVE


A young man, Agbo Onuabuchi aged 24, a native of Ebonyi State, but resident at Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been arraigned and remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre, for strangling to death and burying his male friend, one Peter Ukekwe aged 44, in a shallow grave, at Amori community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, on 01/04/2023.


2. The suspect and the deceased, had on the said date, traveled from Ogidi, Anambra State, to the mentioned location to visit one Onyeka Edeh (male and a Native Doctor). However, during the night hours, the duo left the host's house for an unknown destination. A search was conducted, but they were not found until the following morning, when the suspect was arrested at Obe community in the same LGA, by Police Operatives serving in Nkanu West Division of Enugu State Command, with the assistance of citizens, while he was attempting to escape back to Ogidi, Anambra State. 


3. The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he strangled the victim to death and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush, where his remains were exhumed and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The case was, thereafter, transferred to the Homicide Section of the State CID Enugu, where investigation into the case was consolidated, concluded and the suspect arraigned and remanded accordingly for further hearing.
