 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Explosion Rocks Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria, Four Persons Confirmed Dead

No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead in an explosion in Sokoto state, Northwest Nigeria.

Local sources said the explosion happened on Sunday afternoon at a welder's shop in the Isa Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that several persons were injured in the explosion.

One of the sources said, “When I heard the loud explosion, what came to my mind was that bandits were on a rampage.

“It was when I saw people running towards the welder’s shop where the explosion occurred that my mind was at rest that it wasn’t bandits that struck.

“Upon enquiry, I was told that the explosion was from a welder’s shop and there were casualties and several others injured.”
