LAGOS PILGRIMS HOLD THANKSGIVING SERVICE

… As Sanwo-Olu Calls For Spiritual Rebirth

As a way of appreciating God for a successful pilgrimage exercise, pilgrims to the Holy Land of Jerusalem and Jordan for the 2022 pilgrimage exercise with the State Government, friends and family members recently gathered for a Thanksgiving Service held at Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa.

Speaking during the Thanksgiving Service, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Obijoke Sanwo-Olu told the returnees from the Holy Land of Jerusalem and Jordan to be true ambassadors of Christ and allow their encounters during the Pilgrimage to strengthen their relationship with God and the people around them.

Represented by the wife of the former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mayowa Ikuforiji, the Governor's wife urged the Pilgrims to become Godly role models and positive influencers to people within the society.

She stated that the Pilgrims cannot afford to live in obscurity again but instead allow their Light to Shine before men so that the people of the world can see illumination through them and glorify God.

The Governor's wife said: "You cannot afford to go back to your old ways and lifestyles. As you have been described as the Light and Salt of the world in the Holy Book, it means that you have a lot of tasks ahead of you.”

While thanking God on behalf of the Pilgrims for the successful completion of the rigorous nature of the pilgrimage exercise and the journey mercies experienced, Dr. (Mrs.) Sanwo-Olu underscored the need for the Pilgrimage returnees to imbibe and internalise the lessons learnt in the Holy Land.

He said: "We bless the Lord that there was no report of any negative eventuality. It is fitting at this point to state that we are indeed peculiar people with a deep sense of appreciation and we show this trait in praises and thanksgiving to God who specifically called us out of darkness into His marvelous light."

The Commissioner admonished attendees during the Thanksgiving Service to stand out as good followers of Christ by exhibiting the trait of grace, love, compassion and a sense of humanity as portrayed by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Speaking on the welfare packages usually made available by the State Government for all Pilgrims that travel with Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Commissioner affirmed that the State Government had been painstaking in its service delivery to the Pilgrims.

His words: "Our service delivery to you which you can attest to, especially from the thorough medical and administrative screenings, Service of Dedication to the airlift. Without any stretch of imagination, the services have been excellent."

Delivering the sermon at the event, titled: "Let your Light Shine", the Preacher, Pastor Adekoya David Oluwagbenga, said that showing gratitude to God always was a unique way of invoking God’s continual blessings.

He emphasised the importance of daily communion with God as a condition for a believer to remain a shining light, adding that Christians must run away from every appearance of evil and be deliberate in showing constant and genuine love for others.

The Board Secretary of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Yetunde Gbafe said that the Thanksgiving Service was in line with God's injunction as recorded in Psalm 100 where Believers were enjoined to come into His Presence with Praise and Thanksgiving.

According to Gbafe, thanksgiving or showing Gratitude “opens our spiritual eyes, because the more we thank Him, the more we see Him working in us and around us. Gratitude helps us sense God's presence, His care and His perfect timing.”

She appreciated the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for giving Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board all necessary support to organise a hitch-free Holy Pilgrimage every year.

“I will also acknowledge the Generosity and Dynamic Support of our First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for always identifying with us in this Chapel and for her motherly show of affection every time”, she added.
