 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. MAN ARRESTED FOR BEATING HIS WIFE TO DEATH IN ADAMAWA STATE.(PHOTO).

Man arrested for beating his 38-year-old 'wife' to d€ath for seeking to marry another man


The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 56years old man, for allegedly beating his 38-year-old acclaimed ‘wife’ to death. The suspect, Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Lelewaji, Shagari phase 2, in Yola South Local Government Area, for allegedly beating his wife, Nana Fadimatu, following a little disagreement that ensued between them when he heard that the deceased is going to marry a new Husband the next day.


Angered by that information, the suspect furiously engaged her on May 5 at about 10pm, and applied force on her by hitting her with a hard object as a result of which she fell down unconscious and was later pronounced d€ad.


The suspect was apprehended by the Police in Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters following report received from the awaiting Husband Mahmud Rufai of Shagari Annex, Yola South Local Government Area.


Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the investigation so far reveals that the suspect who is a Manager of Anasam table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing had one (1) child with the deceased after 9 years of their marriage.


He mentioned that the state Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola while expressing shock, commended DPO Shagari for arresting and making it impossible for the Suspect to escape Justice.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
