 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting. We’ll Discharge Our Duty Without Fear, Favour – Election Tribunal Chairman

Chairman of the Election Petition Tribunal in Calabar, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi has given assurance that the tribunal will discharge its duties without any fear of favour.

Adeniyi stated this on Wednesday during the inaugural sitting of the tribunal in Calabar.

He said the tribunal would ensure that judgement was delivered in favour of the real winners of the just concluded National and State House of Assembly elections in the state.

The Chairman flanked by other two members of the panel, Justice Eva Okoronkwo and Justice Z. U. Modibbo, called for the cooperation of all parties involved in the hearing of the tribunal.

“We shall discharge our duties to the best of our abilities and always remain mindful of the oath we took.

“We assure all litigants of a fair trial and we will not entertain any form of interference from any quarter,” he said.
