 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 BENUE ASSEMBLY SUSPENDS ALL 23 LG CHAIRMEN

The Benue State House of Assembly has taken a decisive step by demanding the immediate suspension of all 23 local government chairmen in the state.

This action follows the establishment of an ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the chairmen for allegations of financial recklessness.

Honorable Peter Ipusu, the chairman of the committee, presented the findings and recommendations during a session in the House on Wednesday.

The ad hoc committee was set up by the Benue State House of Assembly to thoroughly investigate the local government chairmen and their financial activities. The probe was initiated due to concerns of mismanagement and improper use of public funds. Honorable Peter Ipusu, as the committee chairman, spearheaded the investigation, gathering evidence and conducting interviews to determine the veracity of the allegations.

During a session in the House, Honorable Peter Ipusu presented the comprehensive report compiled by the ad hoc committee. The report detailed the findings and conclusions reached after a thorough examination of the local government chairmen’s financial transactions.

The investigation aimed to ascertain whether there were any acts of financial recklessness or malfeasance committed by the chairmen.

Based on the report presented by Honorable Peter Ipusu, the Benue State House of Assembly has called for the immediate suspension of all 23 local government chairmen pending further action.

The decision to suspend the chairmen was reached after careful consideration of the committee’s findings and recommendations. The Assembly intends to ensure accountability and uphold the principles of transparency and good governance in the management of public funds.
