 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. Nigerian student st*bbed to d£ath during a fight in Canada


Police in Toronto have identified a 28-year-old student from Nigeria as the victim who was fatally st*bbed during a fight in a Scarborough plaza over the weekend.


The victim, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Oseke, was rushed to the hospital, but Banglid said he succumbed to his injuries on the way there. The incident is now being treated as a homicide.


Police said the fight broke out on Sunday, June, 25,  shortly after 7 p.m., in the area of Eglinton Avenue East and Brimley Road.


Toronto Police Service Duty Inspector Jeff Banglid told reporters at the scene that two people were fighting in the plaza, which left one with serious injuries.


Police said the male suspect was last seen getting inside of a dark-coloured sedan, heading south on Brimley Road.


The unnamed suspect is described by police as a man with medium-length dark hair, wearing a light-coloured tank top, pants, and shoes.


“It was very populated at the time and we understand there was a number of people that actually had seen this event,” Bangild said, adding police believe it to be an isolated incident with no risk to public safety.
