 South Africa says US misrepresented its policies after visa curbs South Africa's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it ‌had noted with concern U.S. visa restrictions on some people from South Africa announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio a day earlier. The foreign ministry added in a statement that ⁠the U.S. announcement aligned with "the mischaracterisation of South Africa's domestic policies by fringe groups". "We maintain that challenges in our bilateral relations with the USA can only be resolved by constructive engagement through state actors on both sides of the diplomatic channel not unilateral acts," the statement said, Reuters reported. Trump has repeatedly criticized ‌South ⁠Africa since the start of his second term for what he falsely claims is the racial persecution of its white minority, citing affirmative action laws aimed at ⁠addressing the inequality that has persisted since apartheid. Ohanaeze hosts British envoy, seeks reduced jail term for Ekweremadu


The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has begged the British government to have clemency on the jailed former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.


Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, alongside a medical doctor,Obinna Obeta, were in May jailed by the UK over an  organ trafficking plot.


The UK court sentenced Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in prison; Beatrice bagged  four years and six months  while the doctor was jailed for 10 years.


But on Tuesday, while receiving the British Higher Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, at its National Secretariat in Enugu, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo pleaded with the UK government to have mercy of Ekweremadu.
