 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. What I Discussed With Traditional Leaders — Tinubu


President Bola Tinubu said that he has asked the traditional rulers and their representatives from across the country to support his administration.


He made the call during a meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja on Friday.


Tinubu disclosed this in a post on his Twitter page on Friday.


The meeting is part of a series of engagements the president is having with key stakeholders since he assumed office on May 29.


He tweeted, "I enjoyed my engagement, this morning, with a gathering of traditional rulers from across the country. 


"In the course of our dialogue, I tasked them with supporting the administration’s efforts to ensure lasting peace and unity by promoting responsible behaviour and patriotism."
