 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. ALABA MARKET DEMOLITION: TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETS.(PHOTO).#PRESS RELEASE



The Technical Committee set up by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to look into the issue of demolition of some critically distressed buildings at Alaba International Market in Ojo area of the State, had its inaugural meeting on Tuesday at Lagos State Building Control Agency’s (LASBCA) Headquarters, Ikeja, GRA.



According to the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD), Engr. Oluwole Sotire, the committee was set up to look into the demolition carried out by the government and proffer lasting solutions on the way forward that will be beneficial to both traders and the State Government.

While briefing the committee members about the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the task, Engr. Sotire emphasised that the State Government is interested in the financial prosperity of all Lagosians as well as the safety of lives and properties, saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure that things are properly done.



The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who is also a member of the committee reiterated the Agency’s readiness to work with other members of the committee to deliver on the Terms of Reference. 

Another member of the committee, Mazi Samuel Ohuabunwa, an elder and a member of Igbo Businessmen in Nigeria, commended the efforts of the State Government for initiating the committee which he believes would help douse tension amongst the Igbos in the State and also look at various ways of addressing the issue of distressed structures.



On his part, the President General, Comrade Chinedu Ukatu affirmed that all parties would abide by the recommendation of the committee. He further applauded the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for setting up the technical committee, noting that it would strengthen the ties between the Ndigbos and their host community.

The meeting also had in attendance, the General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Tpl. Kehinde Oshinaike, General Obi Umahi (Rtd.), Mr. Chris O. Maduka and Prince Tony Nwaku.
